Not in Kansas Anymore, Act I, sc. i

Given the title, you may be able to deduce what this episode's going to be all about. I hope for it to honour one of the most classic stories of our generation. These first two panels cover a lot of ground in terms of setting up the entire episode, believe it or not. Like, almost everything that's going to happen is set up in just two frames, it's incredible.

Hang on, Not In Kansas Anymore is freaking RIDICULOUS and way further out there than I was prepared to go when I stared writing it. I'm excited to share it!

Thanks for reading.

From Busk Till Pawn, Act III, sc. vi

Thanks everybody! I hope you've enjoyed "From Busk Till Pawn!" What a journey! What an EMOTIONAL journey! The bone-rattling desperation, the loathing fear of failure, the hollow fatigue of loss and the empowering feeling of charity. They really are paid in full.

Mr. Minestrone doesn't have enough money to save his barber pole. What's there left to do? He realizes, perhaps his dreams won't come true ... but maybe, just maybe, he can help someone else realize theirs instead.

Next week: Is this the last you'll see of the barber pole?

Hallmark Rejects: Happy Fathers' Day

Papaya! They're a lot like fathers, did you know?

  • They're also pronounced "papaw" or "pawpaw" JUST like fathers;
  • It is native to the tropics of the Americas, perhaps from southern Mexico JUST like some American fathers!;
  • The lower trunk (of the tree) is conspicuously scarred where leaves and fruit were borne JUST like ... well, Mothers, ... but fathers are forever INconspicuously scarred from kids, too.
  • The fruit is ripe when it feels soft JUST like fathers, who get softer as they "ripen."
  • Pests kill papayas, JUST like pestering makes fathers want to kill.
The most fitting fruit for fathers' day. Happy Fathers' Day Dad!

(ah man, he never reads this blog anyhow)

From Busk Till Pawn, Act III, sc. iv

That's right! She doesn't even LIKE Rush! What's up with that!? Does she even enjoy MULLETS!? What do we even KNOW about her, in light of this truth? And poor, poor Beardo. He thought FOR SURE he could sell at least ONE ticket to his dear friend, who seems to do nothing but enable his addictions, but no, she's shunning him, for no visible reason.

Destined for the streets, I guess. Poor Beardo. That's a pretty swag jacket, though. Can't imagine the Bum and Barber will let him keep it, though.

For the record, I designed a fairly awesome Crest for the Bum and Barber, but it never seems to get a focal shot in any Caper yet, so, without further ado, you're welcome to gaze upon this:
Next week: The two-part finale begins. What do they do now that time is up and they don't have the money to save the Barber Pole?

From Busk Till Pawn, Act III, sc. iii

I'm letting this one speak for itself, but if you need more, you must view the music video:

From Busk Till Pawn, Act III, sc. ii

While this is just a gag, I can't help but wonder what Beardo could have done that led to Jim's death while helping him buy a farm. Perhaps there's a new episode idea there? Would anybody be interested in reading that one? It'd be my first spin-off episode, which I'm conceiving only now as I write this! ... probably a fruitless endeavour.

More importantly, here we are in the final act and Beardo is nowhere NEAR earning the money he was hoping for. What a sad situation.

Next week: A new commitment to success.
